Yessenia Hicks

I would sincerely like to thank Kids’ Chance of Nevada for issuing a scholarship to me. Finishing college has always been a huge goal for me. I am currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas majoring in Communications. Funding my tuition has not been easy. My mother has raised me by herself after the tragic loss of my father. My mother and grandparents have been my rock and have been trying to help me with my tuition. From them taking extra shifts at work to myself working two jobs in order to support my goals. This scholarship has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I have never felt so fortunate to receive such an amazing opportunity. With this scholarship, I now fully intend to graduate with my bachelors in spring 2020. I am even reducing my job to part time in order to focus more on my schooling. Even though this scholarship would not have been possible without the tragedy that struck my family, I am grateful that Kids’ Chance offers new possibilities to students with adverse situations. I am extremely grateful to Kids’ Chance of Nevada for providing me with this amazing opportunity. I cannot thank Kids’ Chance enough. Thank you.
